Paulina Cuevas

Originally from Santiago, Chile. she is a school counselor and gender diversity educator. Paulina believes that knowledge, education and support from their families and loved ones are key for LGBTQ people to feel empowered and confident to advocate for themselves and others. Since 2004 she has worked with LGBTQ organizations advocating for the rights of LGBTQ people through delivering educational workshops to them, their families and friends. Since 2002 she has been working in international school settings, both in Chile and China. Her advocacy, particularly in supporting trans and gender non-conforming children and youth, is rooted in Alfred Adler’s principles and Positive Discipline approach to supporting families, schools and communities. Currently she just finished a two year contract as an Elementary School counselor at Shanghai American School and is ready to start dedicating her full time to advocate and share her experience as a Gender & Sexual Diversity Consultant. Since living in China she is a member and co-founder of TRANScending Borders, and has conducted various Gender & Sexual diversity workshops with university students, parents and educators in Beijing, Shanghai and Ningbo.

Paulina and Lukas will conduct a small-scale study to measure the impact on the participants of the sexual and gender diversity workshops they have been developing in East Asia. During the following months, through TRANScending Borders, they will continue offering trainings to parents, educators, and university students interested in learning about sexual and gender diversity. They will compile the materials and learning experiences they use, and will continue improving the trainings with the learnings from the LGBT Health Policy & Practice Program. This process aims at positioning TRANScending Borders as an organization that advocates for sexual and gender diversity through offering trainings and resources for families, educators, and schools in the region.
