Spencer Perry

Spencer Perry, son of the Hollingsworth v. Perry plaintiffs, has proven himself to be a member of the next generation of young civil rights activists. Though he was only in eighth grade when California passed Prop 8, he sought to play whatever role he could in the fight for marriage equality. Spencer and his family worked with organizations such as the Human Rights Campaign and American Foundation for Equal Rights to overturn California's Proposition 8. Spencer Perry is currently an undergraduate studying Political Science and Economics at the George Washington University, class of 2016. He actively participates in such student organizations as Allied in Pride, College Democrats, Voices for Choices, Student Global Aids Campaign, Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Student Music Coalition. Spencer works as an Audio Engineer and spent his summer as a Senate Intern. As a high school student, Spencer Led student performing groups, his Model United Nations and Mock Trial Teams, the Audio Engineering Society and a Japanese Culture Club. Spencer sat on his local school board and was appointed to several local task forces. Spencer was elected to serve his senior year as the Youth Governor of California and prioritized legislation concerning LGBT and gender inequality issues. At his leisure, Spencer volunteers his time for Men Can Stop Rape, fences and plays the tenor saxophone. Spencer hopes to one day attend law school and find a career in social activism. Spencer currently resides in Washington D.C.
