Kelli Selwyn

Kelli is currently working on her Masters of Public Health degree at the University of Florida. Since moving to Gainesville, in April of 2015, she has worked in interpersonal violence prevention as a supervisor for the Sexual Trauma and Interpersonal Violence Education (STRIVE) program at UF through their health promotion department, GatorWell. She has also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and lab instructor for “Ethical and Legal Issues in the Healthcare Professions” and “Social Research Methods”. In addition to her academic and work endeavors, she has been a volunteer with the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County, working on their Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). She is very excited to learn more about multidisciplinary health practice in the LGBT community.

For her capstone project, Kelli will be creating a train-the-trainer module for Suwannee River Area Health Education Center in Alachua County. The module will help smoking cessation facilitators better understand the social determinants that play a role in LGBT smoking behaviors and will better prepare them to address these issues when working with LGBT clients. In preparation for building the module, she is conducting a community needs assessment for LGBT smokers in the Alachua County area.
