Jeff Poirier


Jeff is a principal researcher at American Institutes for Research (AIR). At AIR since 2000, he has addressed equity-related issues through research, evaluation, and training and technical assistance to facilitate systems change. His work addresses issues such as behavioral health, child welfare, cultural and linguistic competence, homelessness, juvenile justice, positive youth development, and schools. He co-edited Improving Emotional and Behavioral Outcomes for LGBT Youth: A Guide for Professionals (2012) and has contributed to numerous other publications. His dissertation, A Comprehensive Case Study of a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA): Fostering Safe, Supportive Schools for LGBT Students, examined conditions for learning for LGBT students and the influence of GSAs on safe, supportive school environments. He has also presented on LGBT youth issues across the country and internationally.  Jeff’s capstone project will develop recommendations for combining coaching with traditional trainings as part of workforce development efforts.
