Phil Sharp is president of Resources for the Future, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that researches environmental, energy, natural resource and environmental health issues. Previously, he served in the US House of Representatives, on the faculty of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and as director of the university’s Institute of Politics. During his congressional tenure from 1975 to 1995, he was deeply involved in energy and environmental issues, playing a major role in the passage of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments and the Energy Policy Act of 1992.

Sharp currently serves on the board of directors of Duke Energy and the Energy Foundation, as well as on the External Advisory Board of the MIT Energy Initiative. He was a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future and The National Academies’ Committee on America’s Climate Choices. In addition, he was congressional chair of the National Commission on Energy Policy and vice chair for policy of the National Petroleum Council’s Prudent Development study. Sharp has a PhD in government from Georgetown University.
