Michelle Schramm

Michelle is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner who has extensive clinical experience in reproductive and sexual health. She is the Coordinator of Sexual Health and Wellness for Princeton University Health Services. In this role she cares for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as their dependents, for their sexual and reproductive health needs and concerns. Prior to Princeton she worked at Planned Parenthood of Illinois for six years where she held the position of Lead Clinician for ten Planned Parenthood health centers in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. Michelle is passionate about providing inclusive, evidence-based health care and education and particularly loves working with adolescents and young adults.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH), is a Nexplanon Clinical Trainer and speaker for Merck, and is a speaker for Bright Pink, a non-profit which strives to educate young women about breast and ovarian cancer risk reduction as well as identify and support young women who are at higher risk for these devastating malignancies. In May 2015 she completed a graduate certificate from George Washington University in LGBT Health Policy and Practice. In an effort to make Princeton even more inclusive for trans* students, she is working on a proposal to initiate cross hormone therapy services at University Health Services.

Michelle’s capstone project was focused on the quality and utilization of reproductive and sexual health services at college and university health centers for LGBTQA students.  She conducted focus groups and developed and validated an anonymous on-line survey that will help identify students’ perceptions of campus sexual health services as well as barriers to accessing this care. Her goal is to decrease health disparities among LGBTQ college students by improving access and utilization of campus health services which will in turn enhance their college experience and support them in their academic endeavors.
