Lee Moore

From high school history teacher to professional school counselor to psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, Lee has taken the "winding path" in terms of seeking out the most fitting place within the realm of health promotion.  Past opportunities have included helping to run a GSA while in school in Athens, GA, conducting research into gay males' conceptualizations of masculinity while in Knoxville, TN, and helping to start the first LGBTQ nursing organization in Vanderbilt University's School of Nursing.  Perhaps his most meaningful experience has been the chance to work with patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at Vanderbilt's Comprehensive Care Clinic.  Alongside reinforcing his appreciation for mental health treatment in general, this work has allowed him to both hear the lived experiences of patients too often forgotten by the system and assist in managing their psychiatric care.  His professional interests include minority experiences of healthcare, substance abuse within the LGBTQ community, and the overall destigmatization of mental illness.  In September 2015, Lee started working as a PMHNP at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, in Yakima, WA.

Lee's capstone project works with the YVFWC's New Hope Clinic in order to identify gaps in practice and improve care provided both directly and indirectly to local patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDs.
