Jeffrey Goodman

The 2015 Society for Public Health Education’s (SOPHE) Trophy is awarded for dedication to the advancement of the profession and service to its membership. This honor was bestowed as a result of Jeff’s tireless efforts to mobilize the membership around important areas related to the Society’s mission. In the last year Jeff produced a toolkit for local members to advocate to their state Medicaid Directors to implement a new CMS ruling related to billing for health educators. He has also published two articles including SOPHE’s well received White Paper entitled “Opportunities and Challenges for Health Educators under the Affordable Care Act” and a peer reviewed journal article on the use of virtual practicums for MPH programs. Most recently, Jeff was at the forefront of advocating directly with Senate staff in an effort to elevate health education to core curriculum status (along with physical education) in the Every Child Achieves Act of 2015, just passed out of the Senate HELP Committee. Every step of the way, Jeff has brought forward the needs and concerns of the LGBT population and reminded SOPHE of the role it can play in helping the population.
