Emmett Patterson


Emmett is a recent graduate of American University, where he studied Public Health and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. His work in LGBTQ health centers trans masculine sexual health, HIV, and disability justice. Particularly interested in medical provider education, Emmett is currently writing a collection of short stories that will be used to train paramedics about LGBTQ patient health needs. He is the co-founder of Not Your Average Sex Talk, a peer-to-peer sexual education program taught that uses a harm reduction framework to discuss issues related to sex and intimacy for queer and trans people. He is also a 2014 Point Foundation Scholar and former Policy Institute Fellow at the National LGBTQ Task Force. He is now the Getting2Zero Program Associate and Trainer at AIDS United.


Emmett plans to examine and adapt existing LGBTQ health provider training tools for emergency medical providers, such as paramedics and emergency room providers.
