Gretchen Gasteier

Gretchen believes strongly that health care is an issue of human rights. She wants to create change to allow LGBT people to achieve health care they deserve. In South Africa, she volunteered at a tuberculosis clinic where 90% of the patients were HIV-positive. Lack of supplies, staff, equipment and the stigma against patients brought to life the challenges of living with HIV/AIDS. She has interned at the Human Rights Campaign and Emily’s List and volunteered at the Whitman-Walker Clinic. She is particularly interested in working in the programmatic and policy areas concerning access to healthcare and quality care for HIV-positive populations.

Gretchen developed a program to reduce stigma of lesbian and bisexual women who are HIV+ in South Africa. Click here for more info.
